The Deseret News will be covering Saturday’s game between BYU and SMU live. Check back for updates throughout the game.

It’s safe to say BYU misses LJ Martin.

Since the sophomore running back left the game due to injury late in the first quarter, the Cougars have averaged less than 2.5 yards per play and failed to get on the scoreboard.

Additionally, Jake Retzlaff seemed rattled by SMU throughout the game, finishing the half 7-of-15 passing and on a streak of five consecutive incomplete passes following his touchdown pass to Mata’ava Ta’ase.

The Cougars’ defense has, however, recorded three sacks and forced three separate three-and-out punts and another turnover on downs, but BYU’s offensive woes kept the defenders on the field longer than desired, allowing SMU to have possession of the ball for nearly 17 minutes.
