Costco issues recall notices for frozen waffles and freeze-dried meats due to listeria concerns

Frozen waffles and freeze-dried meat sold at Costco are being recalled, making them the latest products to be in the spotlight because of listeria issues.

On Tuesday, TreeHouse Foods announced a voluntary expansion of the recall to include “all products manufactured at a facility and still shelf-stable.” The recalled product, Krusteaz Belgian Waffles 24ct, was sold at Costco between October 13, 2023 and October 21, 2024.

On the same day, the grocery supplier also issued a comprehensive recall notice affecting products “sold in most retail stores” and listed at least nine other retailers.

“Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems,” TreeHouse Foods said in a statement. “Healthy individuals may only experience short-term symptoms such as high fever or severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria monocytogenes Infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.”
