The medical examiner has released the identity of a Grayslake woman who died when she drove in front of a tractor-trailer that caused a crash on Route 41 in Gurnee Tuesday morning.

An autopsy performed Wednesday found that Sandra Booker, 64, of Grayslake died of blunt force trauma in a car crash, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

Gurnee Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a serious traffic accident at the intersection of Route 41 and Delany Road around 11:50 a.m. Tuesday.

Gurnee Police Department spokesman Shawn Gaylor said the incident involved a semi-trailer truck and a Honda sedan.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Honda driven by Booker was traveling southbound on Route 41 in the left-turn lane for northbound Delany Road.

For unknown reasons, the Honda left the turning lane and entered the southbound lanes of Route 41, Gaylor said.

The Honda was struck by the southbound semi-trailer and pushed through the intersection, where it struck a pole.

Gurnee Fire Department worked to free Booker, who was trapped in the car, Gaylor said.

She was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of her serious injuries.

Gaylor said Booker’s death was later confirmed at the hospital.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to assist in investigating the circumstances of the accident.

During the investigation, Route 41 southbound was closed for several hours.
