Construction worker in Colorado dies after dump truck hits him

According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, a construction worker from Centennial was killed at a construction site on South Holly Street when he was struck by a dump truck driver.

Officers responded to a crash involving a car and a pedestrian near Willow Spring Open Space Monday morning.

Traffic investigators determined that a worker was attempting to stop traffic on South Holly Street to allow the dump truck driver to back up when the truck struck him, sheriff’s spokeswoman Ginger Delgado said Tuesday.

The man, identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office as 63-year-old Reinaldo Aguilar, was later pronounced dead. The cause and manner of death have not been determined, coroner officials said Tuesday.

Investigators are still looking into what happened during the crash, Delgado said.

No charges are currently being filed against the dump truck driver, the sheriff’s office said in a post on X.

The name of the construction company was not initially known. Construction crews are installing a pedestrian guidance system and improving sidewalks and creating path connections, according to the city’s website.
