Connecting Israelis and Jews through sports on social media – Israel Sports

Where can Israeli and Jewish sports fans read about Israeli golfer Laetitia Beck, who finished 53rd at the recent Meijer LPGA Classic, kayaker Talia Eilat, who won bronze at the European Championships, and the Israel South All-Stars baseball team, which competed in the Little League World Series regional qualifiers in Poland? You can read these stories and more—and get a preview of the Israeli team’s Olympic uniforms—in the Facebook group “Follow Team Israel”!

Founder David Wiseman, a father of three who jokingly places his aliyah date from Sydney, Australia, to Jerusalem to the 2004 Olympics in Athens, is happy to report that the Facebook group surpassed the astonishing 100,000 follower mark in July.

A project of passion

The site is a hobby and passion project for Wiseman when he is not busy pursuing his “main job” as a buzz dealer for digital branding and online reputation management.

The project brings together his three passions – Israel, Judaism and sports – with an audience that, he says, “is not always Jewish or Israeli and is not always interested in sports.”

Wiseman reports that he “doesn’t provide results, he provides stories – that’s what they’re interested in.” He is happy to “provide a constant stream of positive content about Israel that is not political” and he doesn’t care “if the person is ranked 100th, 14th or 2nd.” Wiseman just wants to “shed some light on the athletes and their achievements.”
