Comcast adds Big Ten Network to Xfinity TV on the West Coast

Comcast and the Big Ten Network have reached an agreement that will allow fans of the University of Washington Huskies to watch their games on Xfinity TV as early as this weekend.

Jon Wilner of the Bay Area News Group published a brief statement from Comcast on Thursday morning on X This indicates that the Big 10 Network will be available to Xfinity TV customers in the three West Coast states “just in time for this weekend’s action.”

A Comcast spokesperson confirmed to MyNorthwest via email Thursday afternoon that the statement Wilner released was accurate and that an agreement had been reached.

“We are pleased that the Big Ten Network will be available in time for this weekend’s promotion to Xfinity TV customers who subscribe to the Popular TV package in Oregon, Washington and California,” John Demming said in a statement to MyNorthwest.

XFinity’s popular TV package includes more than 125 channels and pricing starts at $50 per month. The monthly cost of the package depends on how many additional channels customers add to their offering.

This development means fans of the UW Huskies, Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins, who are also Xfinity TV customers, will be able to watch their favorite teams’ games on the Big Ten Network. The UW Huskies’ game Saturday against the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City, Iowa, airs as early as 9 a.m. on Fox. However, four of the Huskies’ last five games, including key matchups against Penn State and rival Oregon, have not been transferred yet.

How we got here

A dispute between Comcast and Fox, the owner of the Big Ten Network, has been going on since the summer and has spilled into the start of the college football season. Fox and Comcast tried to reach an agreement to allow consumers on the West Coast to watch games from UW, Oregon, UCLA and USC since joining the Big Ten Conference. As the dispute continued into the fall, UW Huskies fans missed the team’s first two games, wins over Weber State and Eastern Washington.

Previous reporting: Comcast customers miss the Huskies’ televised season opener

Before the Huskies’ opening game, the Big Ten Network released a statement regarding the ongoing negotiations between the two parties:

“The Big Ten Network is proud to present an expanded slate of live sporting events featuring the B1G Conference’s newest members, however, most Comcast subscribers will not see these games.” As the only distributor who declined to partner with As we expand, Comcast Xfinity viewers in many regions will not have access to live broadcasts of the highly anticipated opening games of the B1G season for Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington.

“If you are an Xfinity subscriber and cannot find the Ducks, Huskies, Bruins or Trojans on the Big Ten Network near you, please call 1-800-Comcast or go to ALLBTNGAMES.com.”

While this deal ensures that Xfinity customers get more UW Huskies games, it’s worth noting that this deal is separate from another of Comcast’s streaming products, Peacock. The service exclusively aired the 2024 edition of the Apple Cup, won by the Washington State Cougars, in September. Interested fans will still need to take out a subscription to gain access to the games broadcast there.
