Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has been ruled out of Week 5. The team announced Friday that Taylor, who was questionable with an ankle sprain, will officially miss Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Taylor’s injury involves the same ankle that has had issues in the past, and the running back suffered a similar injury in 2022. After missing a few games that season, Taylor re-injured his ankle in December, was placed on injured reserve and had to undergo injury surgery, ending his season.

According to multiple reports, this ankle injury is not as serious as those in previous years, but Taylor’s recovery time will likely be longer than normal given his injury history. According to the Colts, Taylor did not practice this week.

Before the injury, Taylor was off to a very solid start to the year, rushing for 349 yards and four touchdowns in the first four games of the season.

Meanwhile, Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson, who has been regularly injured, was downgraded to doubtful on Saturday. Richardson, who was originally listed as questionable on Friday, has been limited in practice this week due to an oblique injury. Indianapolis is probably safe because of its injury history: The second-year quarterback missed most of last season after undergoing shoulder surgery in October.

According to James Boyd of The Athletic, Joe Flacco was seen taking most of the first-team snaps at practice on Friday. With Richardson now doubtful, Flacco will likely fill in on Sunday.
