Colin Firth to star in Steven Spielberg’s UFO event film

Colin Firth is set to make the switch from Kingsman to Little Green Men, and according to news, he is currently in negotiations to star in Steven Spielberg’s untitled UFO event film.

The project was previously described as a two-person production, meaning Firth will likely take on the co-lead role alongside the previously announced Emily Blunt. Deadline reports that the Oscar-winning star of The King’s Speech is in initial talks about joining the Amblin and Universal film.

The UFO film, scheduled for May 15, 2026, would be the first time Spielberg looks to the sky since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), after having previously contacted Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), ET – The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and War of the Worlds (2005).

The screenplay is based on an original idea by Spielberg and is written by his long-time collaborator David Koepp (Jurassic Park).

Spielberg’s last film was the 2022 semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama The Fabelmanswhile for Firth, rumors are rife about a return as Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones – Crazy about the Boy.
