CJ Stroud suggests the Texans are pointing fingers and not backing down

In general, Texas quarterback CJ Stroud said the team was “embarrassed” Thursday night. More specifically, he implicitly hinted at a few things the Texans may or may not be doing that are contributing to the situation.

“I would say we just need to play more honest football, perform better, stop pointing fingers and realize that at the end of the day it is not winning football,” Stroud told reporters after the 21:13 defeat. “We can’t prevail in every game, we’re a really good football team, we have a lot of really good players. Once we accept the systems and what is being coached, we must also have the leadership to take. I don’t think this is the end, but it’s definitely a great wake-up call for us to right the ship. This is playoff football now, it’s November-December, this is the part of our schedule, we’re playing a lot of great teams in prime time and we’ve got to be able to find ways to win.”

When he says they need to stop pointing fingers, that means they do it too. If it says they have to buy into the systems, that means they aren’t.

Ultimately that is the responsibility of the coaching staff, but it is the players’ responsibility to police themselves. Stroud said it publicly last night. With a game against the Lions looming, it becomes crucial for the Texans to address these issues privately.
