Chuba Hubbard Contract Details: Panthers RB signs contract extension

play

The Carolina Panthers running backs are reaching some notable milestones as they prepare for the NFL’s only Germany game of the 2024 season.

Jonathon Brooks is expected to make his debut for the team. The second-round rookie missed the first half of the NFL season while recovering from a torn ACL suffered during his final season at Texas. He is expected to become an important part of Carolina’s running back rotation.

However, Panthers backfield leader Chuba Hubbard won’t quietly relinquish the role to the rookie. Instead, Carolina rewarded the fourth-year veteran with a lucrative contract extension.

“We are pleased to sign Chuba to an extension and keep him in Carolina,” Panthers general manager Dan Morgan said in a statement announcing the deal. “He embodies everything we want on and off the field. Chuba is passionate about football, productive and committed to his teammates and winning.”

Hubbard, 25, is in the midst of the best season of his career. He is on track for his first-ever 1,000-yard game, having generated 665 yards and five touchdowns in nine games while averaging an impressive 5 yards per carry.

How much did the Panthers pay Hubbard? Here’s what you should know about his extension with the Panthers and where he ranks among the highest-paid running backs in the NFL.

Chuba Hubbard contracts

Hubbard signed a four-year contract with the Panthers worth up to $37.2 million and a base value of $33.2 million. Below is a look at the full details of his deal in Carolina, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

  • Expression: 4 years
  • Total value: $33.2 million
  • Average Annual Value (AAV): $8.3 million
  • Guaranteed money: $15 million

Hubbard’s new contract represents a significant raise over the final season of his rookie contract with the Panthers. The 25-year-old will earn a base salary of $3.1 million and has a cap hit of just under $3.3 million.

That means Hubbard will see a $5 million increase if the contract is analyzed annually.

The highest paid RBs in the NFL

Several metrics can be used to measure the highest paid players in the NFL. AAV (average annual value), total guarantees, and total contract value are the most popular among them, with AAV being the best estimate of a running back’s annual value.
