Chicken Big Mac – NBC Chicago

A new menu item is now available at McDonald’s restaurants nationwide – but it may look familiar to fans in more ways than one.

According to the Chicago-based burger chain, the brand’s new Chicken Big Mac will be available at McDonald’s restaurants nationwide for a limited time starting Thursday. The launch marks the sandwich’s U.S. debut, although the restaurant says it is also available internationally, including in the United Kingdom and Australia.

The twist on one of McDonald’s most popular menu items comes just weeks after the chain touted its release on social media with the phrase “No Big Mac.”

The sandwich – a reimagining of the classic 1968 Big Mac – includes almost all the toppings and sides Big Mac eaters know and love: pickles, lettuce, cheese, Big Mac sauce and a sesame seed bun. The only changes are no onions and of course the chicken.

According to officials, the tempura-breaded chicken patties used were specifically designed for the Big Mac. They’re also different from the patties McDonald’s uses on other chicken sandwiches — like the McChicken, which uses a mix of muscle meat, or the McCrispy, which is a breast fillet.

But NBC Chicago’s DS Shin and Francie Swidler knew the patty was similar to — and tasted like — McDonald’s other popular menu item: the tried-and-true Chicken McNugget.

“It’s like putting chicken nuggets on a burger,” Swidler said.

“It’s basically like a chicken nugget burger,” Shin added.

The new sandwich is the latest update from the chain, which also announced the return of its popular Boo Buckets this week, this time with a new look.

In an announcement on Monday, the Chicago-based burger chain said the iconic Halloween buckets will be available again at McDonald’s Happy Meals starting in mid-October. Additionally, new bucket designs were unveiled for 2024 and the nostalgic buckets would receive a “refresh.”

However, some on social media didn’t like the updated look.

According to the announcement, the buckets will be available in McDonald’s stores starting October 15 and will be available “while supplies last.”

In addition to the Boo Buckets, the chain also recently introduced a Crocs Happy Meal and other menu changes.
