Chelsea interested in Atletico Madrid’s Felix as Omorodion transfer fails

Chelsea are considering re-signing Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix after talks over striker Samu Omorodion fell through.

Talks over personal terms between the Blues and Atletico’s 20-year-old Omorodion broke down last night, despite a transfer fee of £34.5m agreed last week.

There has always been caution at Stamford Bridge over the Omorodion deal, with the Blues considering a transfer for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, while Romelu Lukaku is moving in the other direction.

A deal for Omorodion is not yet 100 percent finalized, but negotiations are not as advanced as the various parties had hoped.

After meeting with his agent Jorge Mendes, Chelsea are now considering a move for Felix, alongside a number of other attacking options.

A flurry of transfer activity last week, including a £54m deal to sign Wolves striker Pedro Neto, means Chelsea are expected to make 12 new signings in the summer with an average age of under 21, spending £243m since June 14 and boosting their squad to over 50 experienced players.

Felix, 24, is open to a return to Stamford Bridge, where he spent six months on loan in the 2022-23 season.

According to BBC Sport, Atletico estimate Felix’s value at around £43 million.

Another aspect of a possible deal is that midfielder Conor Gallagher could move to Wanda Metropolitano for £34 million, with Atletico having to make a major player sale for that transfer.

Atletico posted a photo of Gallagher on their social media channels on Saturday but did not announce the deal, knowing it was tied to the completion of a major player sale.

The La Liga club’s £81.5m transfer of Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez is still expected to go through, even if a player will have to be sold to sign Gallagher.
