Chaos comes to the OutKick Elite 12 after Saturday’s surprise

I know some people weren’t thrilled with the weekend playlist, which many complained was “bullshit.” Well, those thoughts went down the drain when the college football world was thrown into utter chaos thanks to losses by Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, USC and Louisville on Saturday.

What a phenomenal performance from Vanderbilt as the Dores ended a 40-year losing streak to Alabama and shocked fans across the country in the process. We’re living in the era of Diego Pavia, who is starting to remind people of Johnny Manziel, albeit in a Vanderbilt uniform. A monumental moment for the Dores that resulted in fans tearing down the goalposts, then dragging them into downtown Nashville and throwing them into the Cumberland River.

Talk about big moments or disappointments, however you look at it. Arkansas’ win over No. 4 Tennessee Saturday night in Fayettville was a big moment for head coach Sam Pittman. As for the Vols, they looked like a team struggling to find an offensive identity, and Florida is coming to town this weekend.

In the Big Ten, it was USC and Michigan that lost away games. Even though Washington was the favorite to beat the No. 10 Wolverines, it’s still a surprise. As for the Trojans, I have no idea what is happening with Lincoln Riley and this program. Not living up to expectations would be an understatement as Minnesota capped the win with a late touchdown on 4th down.

Okay, let’s take a look at our expert picks, who clearly had a very difficult task in picking the best twelve teams in college football this week.

Here is the shortlist for each week’s OutKick Top 12 poll.

  • Clay Travis
  • Trey Wallace
  • Chad Withrow
  • Jonathan Hutton
  • Dan Dakich
  • Miles
  • Brock Huard
  • Lou Holtz
  • Tommy Tuberville
  • Jeannine Edwards
  • Will Cain

OutKick College Football Playoff Top-12, Week 6 Rankings

Week 4 of this OutKick Top 12 gets a little crazy as our panel had to decide which teams were worthy of making the playoffs after a wild weekend full of upsets.

Don’t forget that the rankings also include the conference champions, who make up the top four teams in the poll and each receive a first-round bye.

We’ve seen Alabama fall from first place in the poll last week to now eighth overall in this week’s standings, while Tennessee remains at No. 11, just ahead of the playoff poll. Surprisingly, OutKick voters moved Texas A&M into the top 12 by defeating previously ranked Missouri.

How about Clemson? After the tough loss to Georgia in the season opener, the Tigers fought their way back into the top 12 with a win over Florida State, something we didn’t expect before the start of the season.

Currently, OutKick voters are projecting the ACC to admit two teams and the SEC to admit five teams, which will be difficult to achieve once the season ends. In the Big Ten, voters have three teams from the conference in this week’s playoff poll, while BYU represents the Big 12.

As you can see, the overall team is Boise State. It would be fascinating to see the play out, especially considering how the Broncos’ offense is performing right now.

What the College Football Playoff would look like now. Voters present their arguments

Ok, this is the most fascinating part of the weekly survey. Find out how each panelist voted on their top 12 this week.

Once again I have to thank Dan Dakich for picking the Indiana Hoosiers in the first poll. While we still have a long way to go, Curt Cignetti’s team is 6-0 and looks to continue making noise in the Big Ten as all roads lead to the regular season matchup against Ohio State.

There is a bit of a split between Navy and Boise State for 12th place, which will be fascinating to watch down the stretch as the Midshipmen are currently undefeated.

And let me just say that the Big 12 could turn into a bitch over the next two months. According to the OutKick poll, BYU is currently the winner of the conference, but business will pick up soon. This coming weekend is a perfect example, as No. 18 Kansas State will travel to Colorado for a big showdown where the winner holds a lead, not to mention the Wildcats could suffer their second Big 12 loss.

Will Deion Sanders get his team into the top 12 next week if they beat Kansas State? That’s certainly possible since BYU plays Arizona on Saturday.

In the SEC, Brock Huard and Les Miles put Georgia in first place ahead of Texas. We will find a solution to this particular situation in two weeks when the Bulldogs travel to Austin for a big game against the Longhorns.
