The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers open their six-game home schedule against William & Mary on Saturday night at Brooks Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Jeff McCarragher and Nate Ross will provide commentary on ESPN+. VASKO MAKES A STATEMENT

• After his start in the season opener Ethan Vasko continued where he left off in 2023.

• Vasko accounted for 288 total yards and three touchdowns in Coastal’s 55-27 win over Jacksonville State.

• The redshirt sophomore earned his first Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after completing 12 of 19 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns while running 12 times for 39 yards and a touchdown.

• His 249 passing yards and 63.2 completion percentage were the second-highest during his tenure as Coastal’s starter.

Grinding and crushing
• Coastal’s running attack amassed 294 yards on the ground in its season-opening win over Jacksonville State.

• The 294 yards were the most for the Chants in a single game since Nov. 26, 2021, when Coastal ran for 315 yards in a win over South Alabama.



FINDING THE ENDZONE
• Coastal Carolina’s defense opened the 2024 season with its fourth touchdown in the last two years.

• Defender Will Whitson’s The strip sack in the first quarter against Jacksonville State was recovered by another defensive lineman Clev Lubinwho carried the loose ball back 15 meters and scored a point.

DOMINANCE IN DEPOSIT
• Coastal held Jacksonville State to just 1 of 9 third-down conversions in the season opener.

• The performance marked the fewest third-down conversions the Chanticleers have allowed since Oct. 31, 2020, when Coastal limited Georgia State to a 1-of-10 performance on third down.



GRAY’S PLACE IN THE RECORD BOOK
Liam Gray became the best touchback of Coastal Carolina’s career against Jacksonville State, breaking Josh Hoke’s record of 62.


• Gray enters Saturday’s contest with 68 career touchbacks.



TWICE AS BEAUTIFUL
Braydon Bennett ran for two touchdowns in Coastal’s victory over Jacksonville State, becoming the first Chanticleer to run for two touchdowns in a single game since Reese White against Southern Miss on November 12, 2022.


• The game was Bennett’s third career two-run game and his first since running for two touchdowns in Coastal’s victory over Northern Illinois in the 2021 Tailgreeter Cure Bowl.



TABLET TIME
• Wide receiver Taylor Tray made a huge impression in his first game as a Chanticleer, leading Coastal with 98 yards on three catches and a 36-yard touchdown.


• Taylor also caught a 59-yard pass, the longest pass for Coastal since Jared Brown’s 59-yard win last season against Army.



CLEV CAUSES CHAOS
• Defender Clev Lubin In his debut for Chanticleer last Saturday, he forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and scored a touchdown after a fumble.


• Lubin became the first Chant to recover a fumble and return a fumble for a touchdown in the same game since Abraham Temoney III against Georgia State last season and the first to force a fumble and recover a fumble in the same game since Emmanuel Johnson last year in the army.



Exploring the line of William and Mary
• William & Mary opened the season last Saturday with a 41-7 win over VMI.


• Head coach Mike London has led an FCS team to three wins over FBS opponents, including a victory over Charlotte in 2022 with William & Mary.


• The Tribe looks to start the season 2-0 for the third consecutive year.


• W&M enters Saturday’s game ranked No. 13 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll and No. 14 in the AFCA FCS Coaches’ Top 25 poll, giving the Tribe a fourth consecutive national ranking.


• W&M has a 34-7 record in games in which it has scored more than 20 points over the past seven seasons, including 23-4 over the past four seasons.


• Over the past seven seasons, W&M is 23-4 when it commits fewer turnovers than its opponents, while it is 4-15 when it loses the turnover battle in the most recent stretch.


• Since the 2014 season, the Tribe have won 37 of their last 44 games when leading at halftime.


• W&M has a 54-6 record when leading after three quarters since the start of the 2013 season.
