Channing Tatum hopes a Deadpool and Wolverine cameo will lead to a standalone Gambit film

It’s difficult to get a project turned into a movie, even when it comes to multi-billion dollar studios like Disney, Warner Bros. or Universal Pictures. Ryan Reynolds struggled for years to get Deadpool off the ground before it finally premiered in 2016, and Channing Tatum waited a decade to make a Gambit movie.




Channing Tatum was supposed to get his own Gambit movie at Fox, but the project spent years in development hell before being shelved when Disney took over in 2019. While Tatum gave up hope of ever playing the character, Reynolds stepped in and offered him the chance to make it a reality with a cameo. Deadpool and Wolverine. Following widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Gambit, Channing Tatum told Variety that he hopes to get his Gambit movie.

Ryan Reynolds played a major role in getting Channing Tatum to make his debut as Gambit. The actor had a lot of fun trying to imitate a Cajun accent and he won over audiences with his performance. He certainly impressed Ryan Reynolds and he hopes the actor reprises his role.

Deadpool and Wolverine“The Gambit” director Shawn Levy explained that he had previously met with Tatum to get the green light for Gambit and was impressed with his abilities as Remy LeBeau. “Years ago I was one of many directors who met with (Channing Tatum) to make a GAMBIT film. It didn’t happen then, for me or for Chan, but I am eternally grateful that we got another chance.” He echoed Reynolds’ comments, noting, “Channing was BORN to play this iconic character, and while I’d love to take credit for his hilarious, charismatic, badass performance in (Deadpool and Wolverine), I was mostly the lucky son of a bitch sitting in the front row watching Destiny happen.”
