Champions League: Leverkusen prevail over Milan as Barcelona come back in style | Champions League

A goal from Victor Boniface in the second half was enough to win Bayer Leverkusen a 1-0 home win Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, giving the German team a perfect start to the season while the Italians are still without a point.

The only goal came six minutes after the break when Boniface fired home a rebound after Mike Maignan parried a shot from Jeremie Frimpong.

It was no more than the home side deserved after a first half in which they had the majority of possession and most of the chances but could not find a way past Maignan as Milan struggled to gain a foothold in the game. The goal spurred the visitors into action and they threatened to equalize as they held off Leverkusen for much of the second half, but they suffered their second defeat in the first two games of the competition.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice for the set Barcelona on the way to a 5-0 win against the Swiss team Young boys as the Catalan giants bounced back from a 2-1 defeat at AS Monaco in their opening game.

Lewandowski gave the hosts the lead in the eighth minute, tapping in a low cross from Raphinha after a fine combination between the Brazilian striker and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. After wasting some good chances, a quick one-two from Raphinha and Iñigo Martínez gave Barcelona a 3-0 lead, with the Brazilian netting a rebound in the 34th minute and defender Martínez with a huge one less than three minutes later Header hit.

Lewandowski scored his second and Barça’s fourth goal in the 51st minute with a header inside the six-yard box from a corner from Martínez, before defender Mohamed Camara diverted the ball into his own net in the 81st minute while trying to clear a cross from Alejandro Balde .

Inter‘s Mehdi Taremi scored his first goal for his new club and provided two assists to help them secure a comprehensive 4-0 win Red Star Belgrade in their Champions League game at San Siro.

Hakan Calhanoglu opened the scoring with a superb free-kick in the first half, before Taremi’s tenacity set up further goals for Marko Arnautovic and Lautaro Martínez, while the Iranian striker took advantage of errors in the visitors’ defence.

Taremi, 32, who joined as a free agent in July after leaving Porto, converted a late penalty to cap a superb night as Inter extended the point they took at Manchester City in their Champions League opener had.

Abdallah Sima scored twice as much Brest won 4-0 RB Salzburgwhich gave them a perfect start to their first ever European season as both of their wins came against Austrian teams.

Brest won 2-1 at home against Sturm Graz in their first Champions League game, and the French put in a skilful counterattack performance that paid off against Salzburg, who couldn’t find a way forward despite numerous chances.

Brest shot on goal once in the first half, but that was all they needed to take the lead. The visitors fended off a Salzburg attack and Ludovic Ajorque’s pass found Sima, who fended off his opponent and pushed his shot past the goalkeeper.

Salzburg wasted chances in the first half, Amar Dedic and Karim Konaté both shot wide early on, and in the second half they were completely exposed by the visitors.

A long save from the goalkeeper in the 66th minute ended with Mahdi Camara doubling the lead with a superb shot after Salzburg failed to clear the ball, and four minutes later Sima pounced on a rebound to score his second.

The home side lost all fighting spirit when Brest scored their fourth goal 15 minutes from time when Mathias Pereira Lage struck from outside the penalty area, completing the defeat and bringing Salzburg to zero points after two games.

Stuttgart There was a 1-1 draw at home against the Czech champions Sparta Prague in Tuesday’s other early game after Sparta midfielder Kaan Kairinen canceled out an early opener from Enzo Millot.
