Ticket sales platform Ticketmaster has been unveiled as a depiction of a Kent town’s Bonfire Night after reaction to dynamic pricing attracted fans wanting tickets to the upcoming Oasis tour.

Liam and Noel Gallagher were also featured as puppets on the Edenbridge Bonfire Society’s 11 meter effigy because their shows brought the issue to light, said the committee, which also wished them a “very successful tour”.

Mocking the corporate giant marks a change from last year’s portrayal of London Mayor Sadiq Khan over his “unpopular decision” to increase the capital’s toll on polluting vehicles, as well as other politicians who have previously been targeted. including Liz Truss, Boris Johnson and Donald Trump.

Other possible contenders for this year’s effigy, to be burned at the city’s bonfire celebrations on Saturday, include Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, as well as US rapper P Diddy (Sean “Diddy” Combs), who faces sex trafficking charges among other things, and Mohamed Al Fayed, the late former Harrods boss who was accused of abuse.

Andrea Deans, one of the creators of the giant effigy, said: “We wanted to remind people that it doesn’t always have to be politicians that we create for our annual event.”

“The Ticketmaster ticket fiasco has affected many different age groups, such is the appeal of Oasis, and I know many fans were very unhappy… when they found out the price of the tickets.”

She added that “no one likes to be taken advantage of.”

Fans shared their frustration at queuing for hours for tickets to the sold-out reunion tour, before discovering that the price of some tickets more than doubled from around £148 to around £355 on the website in August had.

A statement on the Ticketmaster website regarding the price of the “season tickets in demand” said: “The organizer has set the prices for these tickets based on their market value.”

“Tickets do not include VIP packages.” Availability and prices are subject to change.’

Ticketmaster previously told PA it does not set prices, sharing a link to its website which says costs can be “fixed or market-based”.

It is assumed that ticket prices are set by the organizers and not the artists.

Reece Hook, creator of the effigy, said: “Although our effigy includes Liam and Noel Gallagher, they are not our target, but rather the corporate giant Ticketmaster, who we chose to use this year.”

“We are all big Oasis fans and wish them a successful tour.”

The Edenbridge Bonfire Society has celebrated Bonfire Night for almost 100 years, but began the tradition of burning giant effigies in the mid-1990s.

Sir Winston Churchill is one of several famous people who opened the Kent city’s Bonfire Night celebrations.

This year more than 500 people are expected to take part in the torchlight parade down Edenbridge High Street.
