Celebrities and well-known faces in the audience at the Democratic Party Convention

Thousands of Democrats – delegates, party members, politicians and celebrities – packed the United Center in Chicago this week to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota for president and vice president, respectively. Here are some of the prominent figures spotted in the arena.

Thursday

Accepting her party’s nomination, Ms Harris spoke of her middle-class roots and called for unity to forge a “new way forward.” Before she spoke, members of her family took turns to take the podium, including her sister Maya, her niece Meena and her stepdaughter Ella. Several celebrities were spotted in the crowd.

Wednesday

On the third night of the convention, several rising stars gave speeches, including former President Bill Clinton, and Oprah Winfrey made a surprise appearance. After several guests highlighted Mr. Walz’s character as an average citizen and his background as a football coach, he formally accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president.

Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota helped introduce Mr. Walz before he took the stage, emphasizing his Midwestern roots.

Several Democratic governors, including JB Pritzker of Illinois, the host state of the convention, sat with their delegations during the ceremonial roll call. A playlist of songs and a performance by rapper Lil Jon accompanied the evening.

Before the evening concluded with speeches by former First Lady Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff spoke about how Mrs. Harris took on the role of “Momala” to his children, Cole and Ella.

Monday

On the first night of the convention, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech and President Biden passed the torch. “America, I gave you my best,” he said, reciting a phrase from Gene Scheer’s song “American Anthem.” Several members of Biden’s family were in the audience, and spectators held signs reading “Thank you, Joe.”

Nancy Pelosi, a key figure in efforts to get Biden to drop out of the race, held a “We (Heart) Joe” sign.
