CBS News pushed back against former President Trump’s claim that “60 Minutes” fraudulently edited his interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, dismissing the claim as “false” in a statement released Sunday.

After weeks of silence amid growing backlash over the interview, CBS released a statement Sunday evening addressing the outrage that arose after the Democratic candidate’s “60 Minutes” interview aired two different answers to the same question earlier this month.

“Former President Donald Trump is accusing 60 Minutes of fraudulently editing our Oct. 7 interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. This is wrong,” the statement began.

“60 Minutes gave ‘Face the Nation’ an excerpt of our interview that used a longer portion of her response than 60 Minutes did. Same question. Same answer. But another part of the answer. When we edit an interview, whether as a politician, athlete or film star, we strive to be clear, precise and to the point. The portion of her response to “60 Minutes” was more succinct, leaving time for other topics in a wide-ranging 21-minute segment.”

The statement then reminds readers that former President Trump “withdrew from his interview with ’60 Minutes’ and the Vice President participated.” The Trump campaign denied that it ever formally accepted the interview invitation.

“Our longstanding invitation to former President Trump remains open,” the statement continued. “If he wants to talk about the nation’s problems and the Harris interview, we would be happy to have him on 60 Minutes.”

CBS News has not yet released an unedited video or a full transcript of the interview.

The statement came hours after Trump called for the interview to be taken off the air during a scathing sit-down interview with Fox News’ Howard Kurtz.

“60 MINUTES” UNDER CONSTRUCTION BECAUSE KAMALA HARRIS IS THE EDITORIAL DECISION HAS A HISTORY OF LIBERAL CONTROVERSY

“I’ve never seen anything like this before. She gave a terrible, incompetent answer on a newscast … and so she gives an answer that shows she’s stupid or incompetent or that there’s something wrong with her,” Trump said earlier Sunday. “It’s so bad that the people at CBS say we’re going to edit a little… They take out the whole ridiculous answer, and it was a long answer, and replace it with a much shorter answer, which is a total answer had to do.” another topic that also didn’t make sense, but wasn’t as incompetent.

CBS News Scandals

CBS News has Heat taken in the last few days for offering two different answers to the same question in his “60 Minutes” interview with Harris earlier this month. Harris was mocked by conservatives when CBS’ “Face the Nation” showed footage of her performing a long “word salad” to promote the “60 Minutes” session when Bill Whitaker asked why it was like that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu didn’t listen to the US

CBS IS ACCUSED OF “SIGNIFICANT AND INTENTIONAL NEWS DISTORTION” IN THE FCC COMPLAINT OVER “60 MINUTES.”

However, the vice president’s lengthy answer was not included in the version that aired Monday night on “60 Minutes,” and a shorter Harris response to the same question was shown instead. The Center for American Rights, also known as CAR, argued that the discrepancies “amount to intentional news distortion – a violation of FCC rules governing broadcasters’ obligations in the public interest” and formally complained to the FCC.

Former President Trump last week called for CBS to lose its broadcast license, writing on Truth Social: “A huge fake news scam by CBS and 60 Minutes.”

“Their REAL ANSWER WAS CRAZY OR STUPID, so they actually replaced it with another one to save it or at least make it look better. A FAKE NEWS FRAUD that is completely illegal,” he accused.

“Take away the CBS license,” he continued. “Election interference. She is an idiot and the fake news media wants to hide that fact. An unprecedented scandal!!! The Democrats made them and should be forced to concede the election? WOW!”

During a speech at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump further criticized the liberal network.

“The other big news is the fraud that ’60 Minutes’ and CBS perpetrated in concert with the Democratic Party, which I think will go down as the biggest scandal in broadcast history,” Trump said.
