Cardiff City close to expanding squad before transfer deadline

“It could happen this week, next week, you never know,” Bulut said.

“We’re close on a few players, we’re a little bit far off on a few players, but we have a few on our list that we can go to.

“Some teams are deliberately delaying because we are not the only team trying to get some players.”

Bulut said Cardiff were looking worldwide to strengthen their squad but acknowledged that time was of the essence.

“That’s always a negative point with transfers, especially when you bring them in. You can’t change that.

“We have to work on getting her as soon as possible. Even if the month is already over, we still need a few games to get her on the team.”

Bulut added: “I say three, but it can be four. We will not spend money to get just a few players, we want the right ones for the team.”

Midfielder Robertson, signed from Manchester City, made a promising debut in Cardiff’s 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Bristol Rovers.

Willock, Chambers and Kanga all made their Championship debuts in last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat to Sunderland.

But Dutch winger El Ghazi, who was signed after leaving 1. FSV Mainz, is still working on getting fit after missing most of last season due to a dispute with the German club.

He was a free agent after his contract was terminated by Mainz last autumn because of a social media post referring to the Gaza conflict.

Bulut does not believe El Ghazi will be ready for the Welsh derby in Swansea on August 24.

The Cardiff boss said: “He is training hard. We don’t want to use him so early that he gets injured or something like that. That happened to him once before at PSV Eindhoven when he started too early and was injured for a long time.”

“We don’t need that. We want him to be in top shape to be able to play for us. There are still a few weeks to go until then.”
