We’ve noticed before that there’s a magical connection between Ford Mustangs and trees, but in a viral video, we see a C7 Corvette Z06 drawn to a tree like a moth to a flame. Some people don’t seem to understand what happened, although it’s perfectly obvious that the American sports car either wanted to hug a tree or thinks it’s a beaver.

Once again, a street takeover ended fatally.

Either way, the result is catastrophic, which is entirely predictable. But the short video clip starts innocently enough with two identical white C7 Corvettes driving down a city street. At first, the left one leads the other.

But as the second sports car catches up, the first driver seems to panic. Maybe he wasn’t paying attention and the appearance of the other Corvette frightened him, or he didn’t want to be “hit” by being overtaken?

We may never know what was going through the driver’s mind. But we do know that he suddenly puts his foot on the gas. Then the Z06 oversteers to the left. When that happens in a powerful front-engine, rear-wheel-drive car, the worst thing you can do is slam on the brakes.

Of course, the driver slams on the brakes, as you can clearly see. The situation immediately goes from bad as the Chevy pulls to the left to worse as the sports car goes over the curb and crashes into a tree on the island.

The result, as you can clearly see, is devastating. The front of the C7 Z06 is smashed into a thousand pieces, the radiator is probably gone, and hot coolant is instantly evaporating into the air. The high-performance car is probably a total loss.

To the uninitiated, the whole accident looks like an optical illusion. After all, the average person in their Nissan Rogue constantly slams on the brakes and can’t even begin to imagine the weight shift or the benefits of accelerator pedal control.
