    After an exciting first week of the 2024 college football season, fans craving more action won’t even have to wait until the weekend to see a game between two teams from the major conferences.

    On Friday night, BYU travels to Dallas to face SMU at Gerald J. Ford Stadium, a matchup between two of the newcomers to their respective conferences.

    The Cougars entered their second season in the Big 12 with modest expectations after being ranked 13th in the now 16-team conference. Coach Kalani Sitake’s team earned a 41-13 win over FCS Southern Illinois in the 2024 season opener, with quarterback Jake Retzlaff throwing for a career-high 348 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

    The Mustangs are 2-0 in their debut season in the ACC, but their two wins so far have come against Nevada and Houston Christian. The offensive power many expected from coach Rhett Lashlee’s team has been on display so far, with SMU totaling 1,003 yards in its first two games.

    Friday’s meeting is part of a two-game series between the two announced last October, with the second contest scheduled for 2027 at BYU’s LaVell Edwards Stadium.

    BYU and SMU have four meetings in total, with the Cougars winning all four of those meetings. The series is perhaps most famous for its first episode, when BYU rallied from a 20-point deficit in the final four minutes to upset SMU 46-45 in the 1980 Holiday Bowl.

    What channel is BYU vs. SMU on today?

    The Cougars and Mustangs will face off in a nationally televised game on ESPN2. Anish Shroff (live commentary) and Andre Ware (analyst) will be on the phone, while Paul Carcaterra will serve as a reporter from the sidelines.

    Streaming options for the game include the ESPN app (with cable login), ESPN+ and Fubo, the latter of which offers a free trial to potential subscribers.
