Buonanotte defeats Bournemouth to secure Leicester’s first league win of the season | Premier League

As the offside flag went up and Jamie Vardy lamented that Leicester rarely begged in the second half, Bournemouth fans were presented with the perfect opportunity to revel in the No. 9’s misfortune. Vardy may not be as quick as he used to be, but he quickly responded to the mocking voices coming from the corner of the field closest to him, turning his head in confusion towards the traveling fans before joining him for 1st place Hands scored :0 final score. Vardy was eliminated shortly after, but Facundo Buonanotte’s brilliant solo goal ultimately made the difference.

A welcome first Premier League win of the season for Steve Cooper. Until then, their only win in regular time was a home win against Tranmere Rovers, a team several places above the League Two relegation zone, in the Carabao Cup. It was far from easy for Leicester, who survived as Bournemouth hit the woodwork twice in the second half and Evanilson saw their header equalize after a clever free-kick from Lewis Cook was ruled out for offside.

Buonanotte’s first-half goal was a thing of beauty. The Brighton loanee initiated the action a few meters into the opposition half and played a one-two with James Justin. Buonanotte grabbed Justin’s chipped pass and after passing Marcos Senesi, he fired the ball high into Kepa Arrizabalaga’s net. Carlos Tevez, Buonanotte’s manager at Rosario Central, once compared a 17-year-old Buonanotte to Lionel Messi.

Leicester’s players received warm applause for their efforts as they headed down the tunnel at the break, but after the restart Bournemouth increased the pressure. Four minutes into the second half, Illia Zabarnyi hit the ground angrily after sending a strong header against the post from Cook’s free-kick, and in the 72nd minute substitute Dango Ouattara shot a header from another substitute’s cross , Luis Sinisterra, against the crossbar. In between these chances, Evanilson saw his header disallowed and another shot from a turn was blocked by Wout Faes and goalkeeper Mads Hermansen parried low to his right from Ryan Christie.

Buonanotte’s strike was a rare top moment for the hosts as Bournemouth matched Leicester’s goal in the second half. Leicester came out on the other end of some hair-raising defensive spells and held on through five minutes of second-half stoppage time to become the first team to win promotion from the Championship last season.
