Browns Kevin Stefanski frustrated with Deshaun Watson, penalty worries lead to FG

The Cleveland Browns were destroyed again in Week 5 against the Washington Commanders. Midway through the third quarter, the Browns trailed 31-6 and had not gained 100 yards on offense.

The blame clearly lies with Cleveland: the offense is playing poorly, there is no rushing attack at all, poor play calling, a significantly worse defense than last year and an overall undisciplined team. There were two defensive highlights, including a goal-line interception.

The offensive woes were highlighted by a third quarter drive that resulted in a 24-3 score. After the defense’s second turnover, the Browns offense found itself at the two-yard line with a 1st-and-goal. What followed was a terrible insult:

  • False start
  • bag
  • Incomplete pass out of the end zone
  • Incomplete pass from Jerry Jeudy’s hands

On fourth down, 21 points down, QB Deshaun Watson began walking off the field, which seemed to frustrate HC Kevin Stefanski, as seen below:

Another video appears to show that Cleveland didn’t have the right number of players in the huddle, as Watson wasn’t participating in the huddle and WR Amari Cooper counts:

Despite Stefanski’s strong response to Watson, the QB returned to the field on the next drive.

At this point it’s obvious it’s not working no matter who you want to blame, but the team doesn’t have any options with Watson due to his contract and Stefanski just signed a contract extension this offseason.
