Broncos Sean Payton beats Saints and has beaten all 32 teams | Saints

Sean Payton got just about everything he could want in his return to Caesars Superdome.

He had the opportunity to meet old friends and former players, including Drew Brees.

He received the game ball, which Broncos owner Greg Penner then presented to him in the locker room.

And he won a convincing 33-10 victory over the team he coached for 16 seasons.

“That’s the last team I didn’t beat,” Payton said.

With his latest victory, Payton became one of only eight NFL coaches to beat all 32 teams.

“That means you trained in two different places,” Payton said.

After beating all 32 teams, Payton joins a fraternity that also includes Bill Belichick, Tony Dungy, John Fox, Mike Holmgren, Bill Parcells, Mike Shanahan and Andy Reid.

This, of course, was Payton’s first opportunity to beat all 32 teams since facing the Saints for the first time as head coach. He coached the Saints starting in 2006 before resigning after the 2021 season.

“It meant a lot,” Payton said of meeting his former team. “There were a lot of moments here. You have the chance to see old players who were here.”

One of those players was Drew Brees, who was inducted into the Saints’ Hall of Fame early Thursday and then honored again at halftime. Payton appeared alongside current Broncos (and former Saints assistants) Pete Carmichael, Joe Lombardi and Zach Strief at the Brees Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Hilton Riverside in downtown New Orleans.

“It was good to see him,” Payton said. “We thanked him.”

Payton’s Broncos improved to 4-3, while Dennis Allen’s injury-plagued Saints lost their fifth straight game.

“We did a lot of things well tonight,” Payton said. “We obviously let the ball run well. Defensively we had pressure. They (the saints) are being stolen. I told DA to get healthy because they have a good football team. A lot of their players couldn’t play.”

Payton says he believes the Saints will turn things around.

“You all saw how they played early in the season before the injury bug hit them,” Payton said. “Two good wins in a row (to start the season). So many games lie ahead of us now. You’ll get back on your feet.”
