Bride finds out that her maid of honour stole from her

For a bride, choosing her maid of honor is an important decision. She will support you on your special day, handle the planning aspects no bride wants to deal with, and manage the wedding party. Typically, she is a woman’s most trusted confidant and closest friend – someone she wants by her side as she marries the love of her life.

A bride thought she had chosen the perfect person to be her right-hand woman, a friend she had relied on for 17 years, but on her wedding day she was surprised to discover that this was anything but the case.

She found out that her maid of honor had stolen from her during the wedding reception.

In a TikTok video, Jubilee Dawn recalled that her wedding day was an absolutely beautiful occasion. Until the day took a turn when she found out what her maid of honor had been doing behind her back.

Jubilee explained that she and her husband celebrated their wedding in her grandmother’s garden and that it was a “do-it-yourself” event that she organized with the help of family and friends, so she and her husband provided their own alcohol.

“The budget wasn’t huge, so I didn’t have the largest amount of drinks available,” she explained, “but I had red wine, I had white wine, I had beer and then we had two specialty cocktails as well.”

Since the wedding was a relatively small event and there were only about 80 guests, including children, Jubilee thought they had bought enough alcohol for the night. However, on the day of their wedding, their maid of honor approached them and claimed that they were running out of alcohol.

To save the situation, Jubilee’s maid of honor offered to send her husband out and get more alcohol and Jubilee could pay him back later. What she didn’t know at the time was that there were at least 14 unopened bottles of wine and cases of beer that could have been used.

The next day, while at the airport on her way to her honeymoon, Jubilee received a text message from her maid of honor with a bill for $372, far more than Jubilee had expected. Nevertheless, she sent her the money and left for her honeymoon.

Only when she returned home from her honeymoon did she learn of her maid of honor’s deception.

“I came back from my honeymoon,” Jubilee recalls. “I was taking care of the finances of an elderly family member at the time. I was responsible for paying all of her bills, going through her credit card statements and all that kind of stuff. When I went through her statement, I noticed something suspicious.”

Jubilee discovered that an elderly family member had purchased $372 worth of alcohol on her wedding day—exactly the amount she had paid her maid of honor’s husband for the extra drinks.

“When I dig a little deeper, not only do I see that, but the day after my wedding, there was a check for $500 made out from this older family member to my maid of honor’s husband that said ‘wedding alcohol,'” Jubilee continued.

“Not only did they get $372 from me as a ‘refund’ for something they didn’t pay for, they also got $500 from this elderly family member.”

Jubilee learned that her maid of honor had gone to visit an elderly family member who was suffering from dementia and, out of guilt, had persuaded the family member to write her a check.

Upon doing the math, Jubilee realized that her maid of honor had made a profit of $872 from her wedding.

Finally, Jubilee confronted her maid of honor.

Like a deer in the headlights, she immediately panicked, dodging all of Jubilee’s questions and having no explanation for any of the evidence presented against her.

She refused to take responsibility for being caught red-handed stealing from Jubilee and her family, but she did transfer the $372 back months later via Venmo because it was “the right thing to do.”

These situations are incredibly disheartening. It’s one thing to find out that someone has stolen from you and your family, but it’s quite another when that person is someone you consider a close friend and confidant.

Jubilee’s maid of honor was one of her closest friends and had been for 17 years. This kind of betrayal is hard to get over and can leave a lasting scar.

“Every moment is clouded by the realization that maybe it was all fake. Did I ever really know her?” she asked in a TikTok. “If 17 years isn’t long enough to truly understand someone, how can I try again without fear?”

Hopefully Jubilee can take the necessary steps to process this experience and not let it overshadow the special memories of her wedding.
