Bride asks 5 friends to be maid of honor – and gives each a unique title

A Massachusetts bride goes above and beyond with her bridal party!

Anna Vatuone, 29, said in a now-viral TikTok video that she chose not just one maid of honor, but five, each of whom embodies a special quality that she wants to bring to her upcoming wedding in the fall.

“On the first day of fall, I will be married. When it came time to decide who would be my maid of honor, it seemed like an impossible question. I decided to do something different,” the bride shared in the video, before saying that she “asked each of them to have a unique title.”

“Rachel, I asked her to be my maid of loving kindness. Becky would be my maid of joy. Kirsten, maid of passion. Crystal, maid of courage and Erin, maid of generosity,” she continued, showing videos of the women.

“Each word represents a quality that I admire in them and that I want to bring into my marriage,” she said, adding, “On the eve of my wedding, they will tell me what the word means to them and how they think I can best embody it.”

The video, posted in June, received over 500,000 views, over 100,000 likes and over 1,000 comments from people praising her for her ingenuity in coming up with ideas.

Vatuone said Good morning America that she came up with the idea because she wanted to honor her friends who stood by her for several years before she finally found her future husband.

“One of the things I said in the video was, ‘You loved me first,'” she said GMA“And I think about it all the time.”

“I think I’ve longed to find romantic love for so long and wanted to find a great partner and that’s exactly what I was looking for,” she explained. “Now that I’m engaged to this amazing guy, I keep thinking that I already had a great love story with my friends and they showed me how to love. They showed me how to be in a partnership.”

The bride said she wrote a letter to each of her friends, telling them, “This is the quality I see in you,” before asking them to be her maid of honor. She said several of her friends were moved to tears when she presented the idea to them.

“I liked the idea of showing people that there are actually different ways to do this and how we can give back,” Vatuone said. “How can we give back to the people in our lives who have helped us get to where we are today?”

She emphasized that she and her husband wanted to honor their loved ones in a special way on their wedding day and show them that they would always have a special place in their hearts.

“In a sense, I’m getting married, but it’s also an opportunity to celebrate a community. Our shared community – his friends and my friends – have all helped us get to where we are today,” Vatuone added.
