Brian Callahan comments on Titans DeAndre Hopkins-Ernest Jones trade

Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan expressed his thoughts, or at least the thoughts he could share at the moment, about the Titans’ recent moves at a press conference on Wednesday.

The Titans are in the process of trading star receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs, a source confirmed to The Tennessean, and the team is also reportedly trading linebacker Ernest Jones IV to the Seattle Seahawks. None of these deals have been made official by the team yet, so Callahan spoke about the topic at his press conference.

Callahan said he couldn’t comment on details of the deals but expected there to be roster changes in the next “period of time.”

“That’s the reality of NFL business,” Callahan said Wednesday. “When you find yourself in a place that we’re in, a place that we didn’t want to be in or didn’t necessarily expect to be in, but when you’re in those places, these are the things that come with it. “. That’s part of our life in the league.”

The Titans (1-5) visit the Detroit Lions (5-1) at Ford Field on Sunday (noon, FOX). Without Hopkins, the Titans only have four receivers on the active roster: Calvin Ridley, Tyler Boyd, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Jha’Quan Jackson. Returning after Jones are Titans linebackers Kenneth Murray Jr., Jack Gibbens, Luke Gifford, Otis Reese IV and James Williams. Fourth-round pick Cedric Gray is on injured reserve but has been training intensively over the past two weeks.

“You’re always trying to win the day and win now, and there’s always a part of your football operation that’s focused on what’s next and what’s to come,” Callahan said. “You try to balance these things as best you can.”

“…There are always those moments when someone accuses you of something, with an eye on what comes next. This can sometimes be difficult to bear. There’s a human element to all of this.”
