Breaking for the highly anticipated Olympic debut – NBC Chicago

Breaking is one of the newest Olympic sports and is attracting a lot of interest among fans of the Games.

The sport consists of dance competitions in which participants – called “B-Boys” and “B-Girls” – compete one-on-one with different moves.

According to the Paris Olympic Organization, the sport is characterized by “acrobatic movements, stylized footwork and the key role of the DJ and MC (master of ceremonies) during the competitions.”

The competition is judged on a variety of factors, including musicality, personality, creativity, technique, diversity and performance.

And although the discipline is called “breaking,” many spectators refer to it as breakdancing, even though that is not the technical term.

One of the US team’s breakdancers, Victor Montalvo, said in an interview with Today that the term “breakdance” was coined by the media.

Montalvo even said there is a nickname for those who use the term.

“They call them toys, people who know nothing about dance,” Montalvo said.

Breaking will be shown for the first time this weekend after being first shown at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina. Its success there, with over a million viewers, helped the sport make its debut in Paris.

The competition officially begins on Friday and the medals will be awarded on Saturday.

History is being made, as these are not only the first Olympic medals, but possibly also the last. The sport is not on the program for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

In addition to Montalvo, three other breakers will compete in Paris: Jeffrey Louis, Sunny Choi and Logan Edra.
