Braves prove with heartfelt gesture that Freddie Freeman is still part of the family

Although Freddie Freeman is now playing his third season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, it’s safe to say the Atlanta Braves will never forget the impact he had on their organization. Freeman is an 8-time All-Star, 3-time Silver Slugger Award winner, Gold Glove Award winner, National League MVP, and 2021 World Series champion.

Every time Freddie Freeman returns to Truist Park as a visitor, fans greet him with a well-deserved standing ovation. Consider the cheers a way for the fans to say “thank you” for the wonderful memories Freeman left behind.

The Dodgers began a big 4-game set with the Braves on Friday night. Los Angeles is looking to bury the San Diego Padres in the NL West and Atlanta is battling for the final wild card. Before the game, however, Brian Snitker and Braves President/CEO Derek Schiller reminded us that there are things more important than baseball.

Freddie Freeman is known for his perseverance and willingness to play every day. He has suffered few injuries in his 15 seasons so far, but we know his family always comes first.

The Dodgers first baseman had to take some time off at the beginning of the season due to complications with his three-year-old son, Max. According to the Freeman family, his health deteriorated very quickly and he suffered full-body paralysis.

His health condition was diagnosed as a rare disease called Guillain-Barré syndrome. Most people with this condition are hospitalized and if the condition is severe enough, it can be classified as a medical emergency.

After tests, treatments, doctor visits and everything in between, Max is back home with his family and recovering, and Freddie is back on the baseball field. Like many of his Dodger teammates, the Atlanta Braves decided to show their support for the Freeman family in the form of a heartfelt donation.

The Braves organization’s donation to the GBS|CIDP Foundation in Max Freeman’s name shows how important community and relationships between individuals are. While some are still a little upset that Freeman left Atlanta, there’s no denying that it’s refreshing to see this type of relationship with his former club.
