“Boston Bruins will not trade star goalkeeper”

The Boston Bruins and expected starting goaltender Jeremy Swayman have yet to agree to a new contract as negotiations continue to stall. Looking ahead to the start of the 2024/25 season, it will take some effort to sign a contract.

If something doesn’t get done quickly, could the Bruins consider trading Swayman? He is one of the top goaltenders in the NHL and could provide a huge return even if he is still an unsigned restricted free agent.

While the trading option is on the table, neither party wants to see this as an outcome. According to Fluto Shinzawa of the Athletic, everyone involved wants Swayman to stay in Boston.

“Swayman wants to be a Bruin. The feeling is mutual.”

Even though negotiations are progressing at a snail’s pace, everyone agrees that the best outcome for Swayman is to sign a long-term contract with the Bruins.

Swayman may be looking for a lot of money, but he deserves it. In 132 games played, he has a record of 79-33-15 with a .919 save percentage and 2.34 goals against average. With 12 shutouts in his career, Swayman is ready to take on the role of the Bruins’ full-time goaltender.

For the past three years, Swayman has had to share the net with Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark. However, the Bruins expressed their commitment to Swayman by trading Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators this offseason.

Swayman is believed to be seeking a contract similar to the Charlie McAvoy contract the Bruins signed in 2021. The Bruins signed defenseman McAvoy to an eight-year contract worth $9.5 million per year.

Regardless of which direction negotiations go, the Bruins need their starting goaltender. A trade will probably never be an option, but they need to find a solution soon.

The Bruins have a solid goaltending duo of Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi if they have to start the season without Swayman. However, it would be far more beneficial for the Bruins to have their starting goaltender under contract as soon as possible.
