Borderlands movie price announced for digital release

You won’t buy it, but you should know the price.

Borderlands movie

Irony is something that doesn’t always happen in the gaming industry for a number of reasons. For example, it’s not “ironic” when a particular indie title does well because that’s happened several times in the past and it’s more about quality than anything else. Also, it’s not “ironic” when a series goes from “niche” to “mainstream” because it’s always about connecting with players. In contrast, what happened with the Borderlands – The Movie is both ironic and hilarious at the same time. After all, this was a film that had a top-notch cast in many ways, then flopped at the box office and is just days away from being released on digital platforms.

Yes, really. Despite the fact that the Borderlands – The Movie came out the first week of August and will be available on Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, and Apple TV this Friday. As VGC notes, it costs $20 to rent and $25 to buy. As pretty much anyone who’s seen the movie will tell you…that’s WAY too much to buy, and you should just avoid it altogether.

If you want a reminder of why the movie was so bad, all you have to do is look at the production of the film. First of all, they went with a cast that ranged from “she’s a little too old for this role” to Kate Blanchett to “why the hell is he playing Rolan?” with Kevin Hart. Even if we could overlook the miscasting, there were numerous problems during production, including filming an R-rated film and cutting it down to PG-13 to “appeal to more audiences.”

Hey, uh, Deadpool and his buddy Wolverine would like to have a word with y’all… because they came out before this movie, had an R-rated “buddy superhero flick” and went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time and one of the highest-grossing movies in history! Oh, and IT is still in theaters even though it came out over a month ago.

Those who dared to watch the film saw a version of Pandora that was completely unrecognizable at times. The characters were sometimes given their “real looks” but not their real personalities or storylines. As some noted, it was more like they “read the back of a video game box” and then tried to make a movie based on it.

The film flopped so badly that even Uwe Boll made fun of it. There are worse things than death, ladies and gentlemen. But hey, at least Gearbox Software is making a new game in the series!
