BORDERLANDS gets off to a poor start at the box office… but is no longer at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes

Lionsgate and director Eli Roth Borderland The video game adaptation hits theaters today after receiving some of the worst reviews we’ve seen for a major studio release in a long time (yes, even worse than Madame Web).

We know that negative reviews don’t always have an impact on audience interest, but in this case, it’s safe to say that moviegoers weren’t exactly convinced to give the film a chance.

Despite an all-star cast and a family-friendly PG-13 rating, the film grossed just $1.3 million in previews Thursday night, but is now expected to gross between $10 million and $18 million at the domestic box office over its opening weekend.

International numbers could give the whole thing a little boost, but Borderland Considering the estimated budget of over $100 million, we are almost certainly looking at a huge flop here.

However, there is not only bad news, because Borderland is no longer showing at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. A few positive reviews have been added since yesterday’s initial review, and the score now stands at… 6%.

Borderland with Cate Blanchett (Thor: Ragnarok) as Lilith, Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) as Tannis, Kevin Hart (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Roland, Ariana Greenblatt (Avengers: Infinity War) as Tiny Tina and Florian Munteanu (Believe) as War, alongside Claptrap the robot, whose voice is by Jack Black (School of Rock).

“In the film, Lilith (Blanchett), a notorious outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful bastard, Atlas (Ramirez). Lilith teams up with an unlikely team – Roland (Hart), a former elite mercenary now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a wild prepubescent demolition expert; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s muscle-bound, rhetorically questionable protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist with questionable mental health; and Claptrap (Black), a perpetually cheeky robot.

These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe may be in their hands – but they will fight for something bigger: each other.”

This theatrical version was developed at Lionsgate and is based on a screenplay by Chernobyl Screenwriter Craig Mazin. Roth also produced with Avi and Ari Arad under the label Arad Productions.
