Even though numbers don’t lie, they don’t always tell the whole story. That’s the message Booger McFarland delivered at halftime of Saturday’s SEC matchup between Alabama and Tennessee. He was just more creative with his words.

Although the first half was objectively terrible, the Volunteers were in the game at halftime and were only down 7-0. During the halftime show in the studio, host Kevin Negandhi asked McFarland an important question. “How is Tennessee still in this game?”

McFarland had an answer. Fellow analyst Dan Orlovsky may not have expected what was coming.

“There’s an old saying I learned a long time ago. Statistics are like bikinis. They show some things, but not all,” McFarland said.

While fellow analyst Dan Orlovsky tried his best to stifle his laughter, McFarland continued.

“If you look at the stats, Tennessee should be eliminated in this game. Two missed field goals, three turnovers, they can’t control the football, but because of their defense, especially that defensive line, they’re in this game.”

The volunteers were actually fully involved. Tennessee erased a seven-point halftime deficit and beat Alabama 24-17.
