Bill Maher says no October surprise will hurt Donald Trump

Comedian Bill Maher took a clear line during his show Real Time with Bill Maher On Friday he laid out his theory that Donald Trump couldn’t be hurt by a surprise in October. Why? Because the Republican candidate is already “so terrible” that nothing could shock voters before next month’s election.

“Democrats need to stop thinking that an October surprise will save us from a second Trump term,” Maher said.

“We’ve gotten so used to thinking that there’s always a surprise in October that it feels strange when it doesn’t happen.”

The political commentator compared last October’s surprises to Trump’s ongoing legal problems and concluded that the ex-president was immune from further ridicule.

“The Access Hollywood The 2016 video was a classic October surprise and a lot of people thought it would work since “grabbing p—y” is generally frowned upon…” Maher said, noting the 2005 footage is a major debate over Trump’s campaign’s treatment of women, but it did not stop him from winning the election just a month later.

Maher then explained the revelation about George W. Bush’s drunk driving in 1976 and the huge stir it caused just days before the 2000 presidential election.

“But okay, those were much simpler times and, strangely enough, it was viewed as a major scandal at the time,” he said.

“While Trump could today drive drunk on a side street with a blood alcohol content of 1 million, killing a crosswalk filled with kindergarteners and two ducks, that wouldn’t make a difference at all.”

Maher warned Vice President Kamala Harris not to rely on a revelation to derail last-minute Republican efforts.

“Trump’s superpower as a candidate is that he has been consistently, pervasively terrible for so long that you just don’t see it anymore,” he said.

“He beat up a porn star and attempted a coup, he steals from charities. If you’re waiting for a surprise in October that will blow his mind, keep dreaming. And five exams in one year? Even if you’re a fan, that means a lot of trials. But you just can’t surprise the voter who has seen it all.”

The HBO host suggested that Democrats shouldn’t expect Trump’s “shortcomings” to turn off voters, but rather that they should lay out specifically what makes Harris a better alternative.

“I mean, that’s Kamala’s big dilemma. Trump is invulnerable to an October surprise, but she is very vulnerable because she is the one who is not yet defined.”
