horror 3, The nightmare before Christmas, The apprenticeand a movie about a group of people getting mixed up 90 minutes before the show starts: There are a lot of scary movies, it’s true. But there’s more than just horror, like the sweet return of Abbott Elementary School and a LEGO movie about Pharrell. Here are the best new movies and TV shows to watch and stream this weekend.

How perfectly planned that Saturday evening would hit theaters the same weekend it premiered on NBC 50 years ago. Director: Jason Reitman, Saturday evening tackle the 90 minutes before the show SNLis the very first episode. It’s as hectic as the premise suggests as producer Lorne Michaels (Gabriel LaBelle) bounces around Studio 8H in this breezy comedy.

In a world where streaming shows try to make two to four years between seasons normal, this is so refreshing Abbott Elementary School I released some great TVs in just a few months. So watch the season premiere episode (or go back and watch season three) because you’ll want to be ready when Abbott crosses with It’s always sunny in Philadelphia later this season.

Filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón wrote and directed this compelling adaptation of Renée Knight’s book about a respected journalist (Cate Blanchett) who receives a novel that reveals her deepest secrets. Kevin Kline, Sacha Baron Cohen and Kodi Smit-McPhee join the cast of the prestige thriller. –Jen Chaney

Rejoice: Best friends and production partners Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna are back. The show follows aging boxer Esteban “La Máquina” Osuna (Bernal) as he ponders whether he is done in the ring after a heavy defeat. But his flamboyant manager (Luna, sporting disturbing prosthetics) encourages Osuna to come back. – Roxana Hadadi

“And at some point we may wonder why we spend two hours watching a film that, as time goes on, feels more and more like a fancy, somewhat artsy film Saturday Night Live Sketch that never ends.” (Read more here.)

Ella Purnell continues her reign as the newest up-and-coming actress with this thriller about a neglected young woman with a list of grievances against the world at large. In a twist Dexter and countless other serial killer stories, Rhiannon (Purnell) thrives as she begins to kill those who have wronged her. But how long can this high last? Six episodes feels right. –RH

Relationships with age gaps are very popular right now. The latest comes in the form of a Netflix film from filmmaker Susannah Grant. Laura Dern plays a novelist who has an affair with a young man (Liam Hemsworth) while traveling in Morocco.

This movie is probably strictly for Pharrell, but maybe a Pharrell biopic told with LEGO bricks is your thing.
