Bengals rookie Jermaine Burton missed Saturday’s walkthrough

According to a report from NFL Networks’ Ian Rapoport, Cincinnati Bengals rookie receiver Jermaine Burton missed the team’s walk-through on Saturday before Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Burton was well on his way to being a key part of the game plan, but he ended up being a healthy scratch in the Bengals’ 41-24 win.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor declined to elaborate on why Burton didn’t play.

“We just have to approach business the right way,” Taylor said. “I can sit here and say it was a difficult decision to make him inactive, but based on all the information we had, it was absolutely the right decision. He’s a guy who’s going to have a really good career here and so will we.” Support him and he wants to help us win and do things right and today we just had to take a necessary step, But we will bring him back and take him further on the path to becoming a professional. And there’s a lot of things to love about Jermaine, so we’re going to make sure he achieves that.”

Taylor said there would be no further discipline for Burton.

“I still think his best days are ahead of him,” Taylor said. “We will help him get there. He wants it for himself, we want it for him too. Sometimes you have to do things similar to what we did to help him get to the next part. He understands that and we’re going to help him get there.”
