Ben White is unlikely to be named in Lee Carsley’s first England squad

Arsenal defender Ben White is not expected to be part of the initial squad named by England interim coach Lee Carsley.

Carsley, who was appointed caretaker manager in August following the resignation of Gareth Southgate, will announce his first England squad on Thursday for the Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland in September.

White has not been selected for the Three Lions since leaving the 2022 World Cup training camp in Qatar due to a disagreement with Southgate’s former assistant Steve Holland.

It was thought that a change of manager could mean a return to the England national team for White, but that is probably not the case.

The defender has not made himself available for the 2024 European Championship and it is safe to assume that White’s stance has not changed since Southgate’s departure.

The former Brighton defender has made four appearances for England and started both matches as Arsenal made a successful start to the new Premier League season.

Carsley, 50, has resigned as head coach of the England Under-21 team to replace Southgate, who resigned two days after England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final in July.

England travel to Dublin to face the Republic of Ireland on September 7 before hosting Finland three days later on September 10.
