“I find it so funny because don’t mothers always say, ‘You won’t understand until you have children’… and it’s nice that this has become a reality for Lydia,” said The Wednesday The star told Trey Mangum, editor-in-chief of Blavity/Shadow and Act. “I think Astrid is a little bit different because she has the same bitterness, but more because she doesn’t want to be attached to what her mother is attached to.”

“She wants to be her own individual. She feels like she’s constantly in her mother’s shadow. She doesn’t like that her mother divorced her father, she’s dealing with her father’s death and also just being a young person who’s being bullied at school,” Ortega continued. “I think she holds a lot of resentment and unfortunately blames her mother for it, whereas Lydia in the first (film) is naturally dark and serious and just has that quality about her. Astrid is just at a loss, I think.”
