Beckham, Brady and McElhenney watch Birmingham win the ‘Hollywood Derby’ | Birmingham City

Tom Brady was able to boast about Wrexham’s Hollywood owners when expensive summer signing Jay Stansfield scored twice to give Birmingham a 3-1 win at St. Andrew’s.

In the stands alongside seven-time Super Bowl winner and Blues minority owner Brady and Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney were former England captain David Beckham and his son Romeo, who watched Jack Marriott silence a noisy St Andrew’s with his early opener before Stansfield smashed the ball back into the net in front of 27,980 fans on his first league start.

Stansfield’s move from Fulham for an eight-figure fee was much publicised but it paid off immediately as he put City ahead with a second goal early in the second half. Tomoki Iwata’s wonder strike secured the win before Krystian Bielik was sent off shortly before the end of the game.

Wrexham took an early lead – Tom O’Connor’s inside-hit corner caused carnage under the crossbar and Bailey Peacock-Farrell beat Marriott to slot home. But the visitors could not complete their fifth consecutive clean sheet as Alfie May’s first-time effort hit Arthur Okonkwo in the palm of his hand and the ball fell to Stansfield who pounced on the rebound.

Birmingham turned the game around thanks to a spectacular cross from Alex Cochrane that found Stansfield’s head and headed home the second goal of the night. The hosts had breathing room in the 59th minute when Iwata fired a thunderous shot from 25 yards that flew past Okonkwo to make it 3-1.

Things started to boil over when an altercation between Cochrane and Paul Mullin sparked a major brawl with James McClean at the centre of it all and he was immediately sent off, provoking a loud reaction from the Birmingham fans.

Birmingham were forced to play the final four minutes with a man down after Bielik received a second yellow card for a foul on Andy Cannon. This ended Wrexham’s unbeaten start to the season. The hosts are now level with league leaders Wrexham on 13 points.
