BBNBA: The Lakers remain undefeated behind Anthony Davis with 31 points

Will the Los Angeles Lakers be good? Actually good? Will the guy every Kentucky fan hated so much during his time at Duke, JJ Redick, take this team to championship caliber as the new head coach? It’s too early to tell, but the Lake Show is 3-0 to start the season Anthony Davis has a lot to do with it.

Davis filled the stat sheet with 31 points, nine rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks in a high-scoring affair against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night. Oddly enough, he actually had a plus/minus rating of -22, but it’s hard to beat those numbers.

As for the kings, De’Aaron Fox And Malik Monkfresh from showing her allegiance to Kentucky during an autograph session, put up some pretty good numbers herself. Fox posted a double-double with 28 points and 10 assists while also tallying five boards and two steals. Monk came off the bench for 14. Trey Lyles also came in and scored a 3 for the Kings.

Fox, Monk and Lyles weren’t the only former Cats to dress for the game, however. Skal Labiessiere (remember him) also pitched for Sacramento. Although he doesn’t have a two-way contract, he was called up from the G-League at the start of the season and sat at the bottom of the bench. No word on whether this will be the norm.

As hot as Davis and the Lakers are, the Kings have yet to win. They’re a fun team full of former Kentucky guys, so let’s hope they find a rhythm soon.

Julius Randle and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lose 20+ points with wins

Julius Randle is busy sorting things out in his new home. For a man who probably didn’t have time to move all of his underwear into his new living quarters, it’s a good time for him to settle in. On Saturday, against the Immanuel Quickley-less Toronto Raptors, he had 24 points, nine goals and five assists as the Wolves cruised to victory.

Shai Gilgeous Alexander continues where his season as an MVP candidate left off last season. On Saturday, he scored 23 points, grabbed eight boards and had four steals as the Thunder cruised past the Chicago Bulls 114-95.

Cason Wallace is now a starter for Oklahoma City as his defensive abilities make him difficult to keep off the floor. He had three steals, nine points, six rebounds and a big dunk.

More BBNBA notes

  • Reed Sheppard went scoreless in just six minutes of play in his third NBA game. He completed the Summer League successfully and did well in fall camp, but things are completely different in the NBA regular season. He’ll need a few reps to get back on his feet.
  • Tyler Herro is back on the field healthy after a series of injuries sidelined him more than he would have liked last year. On Saturday, Herro dropped 22 points, including 3-7 from deep, in a Heat win over the Charlotte Hornets.
