BBC Sport: Champions League highlights deal to start this season

The BBC will be showing highlights from this season’s Champions League – with a special highlights show after the UEFA Super Cup this Wednesday.

For the next three years, highlights of each match will be available on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app from 10pm on Wednesdays of Champions League match weeks, with a summary programme on BBC One at 10.40pm.

There will also be clips on the internet and social media.

The Champions League will consist of more rounds of matches than before: 17 in total. This includes eight group rounds, which run from September 17 to January 29, and then an extra round before the round of 16.

Starting this season, the Champions League will be expanded from 32 to 36 teams and all teams will be listed in a single table.

The best eight qualify for the round of 16, the teams in places ninth to 24 enter a new play-off round.

This means that the BBC will broadcast highlights from the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup this season.

The new deal begins with a bonus show on Wednesday, August 14, for the Super Cup between Real Madrid and Atalanta.

Highlights will be available on the BBC Sport website from 10pm (BST), with a broadcast on BBC One at 10.40pm.

Meanwhile, BBC Scotland will broadcast Rangers’ third qualifying round second leg against Dynamo Kyiv live on TV on Tuesday – the game can also be watched on BBC iPlayer.

The game at Hampden Park kicks off at 19:45 BST.

Highlights of the first leg, which ended 1-1 after a late equaliser from Cyriel Dessers, are available on iPlayer.

BBC Radio 5 Live will also provide live commentary on selected Champions League matches this season, while TNT Sport and Amazon Prime Video will broadcast the games live in the UK.

Amazon has the first selection of Tuesday games (17 games in total) and all other games will be shown on TNT.
