Bay Area heat wave: San Francisco 49ers fans brave 100-degree temperatures during the game against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) — In the South Bay, 49ers fans braved blistering temperatures to watch their team take on the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium. For most fans, the goal was to beat the heat.

Niner fans were ready for action at Levi’s Stadium, but many weren’t expecting unsportsmanlike behavior from the weather.

“It’s really hot. There will be a toaster in there,” said one fan.

Levi’s set a game day record with a kickoff temperature of 95 degrees against the Cardinals on Sunday.

For many like David Clark and his sons, pregame tailgating was more of a game of fan survival. They put up a tent in record time.

“Definitely find shade and moisturize. A lot of great hats,” Clark said.

It was definitely time to bring out the old school fans and also the fancy private fans.

“This one sprays water and has three speeds,” Lori Runco said.

Runco said bring the heat on. She was ready.

“It’s not normal, but I was out here in the freezing rain and storm. We are in the same place. What are you going to do,” Runco said.

Tim Stubbs doused his wife Jane in sunscreen.

“I mean, I think you have to stay hydrated, use sunscreen and give yourself enough energy to shout ‘Go Niners,'” Stubbs said.

“We are here because we are die-hard Niner fans, rain or shine,” said Giselle Roman.

Roman and Sarah Aleman felt cool and collected before kickoff. We caught up with them later during the game via video chat.

“It’s really hot and sunny. We have these cooling towels. I wish we had shade,” Roman said.

The 49ers sent this message to fans: “The well-being of our community is our top priority and we recognize the impact this heat wave is having on everyone. Levi’s Stadium has complimentary water stations throughout the main concourses, and our guest services locations will as well.” Have sunscreen on hand.

The Niner Faithful showed their strength, even when things got hot.

The 49ers lost to the Cardinals 24-23.
