Padres’ outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. loves the game of baseball. He enjoys playing it. Shame on you if you take a negative view of his antics. Shame on you.

The baseball game is a breeze.

Millions and millions of children play this sport all over the world.

It’s hardly the national pastime just for America.

Even at a professional level you have to have fun while playing. Especially in a sport that requires a lot of failure. There are 27 outs in a game. That means you fail as a team 27 times. As a child, you are taught to “shake it off” or “keep your head up.” The game will drive you crazy if you let it.

For Fernando Tatis Jr., he has lived the lives of several players in his five years at the highest professional level. Tatis fought his way to the top, only to lose everything. Through self-inflicted wounds, Tatis tarnished his name. There’s no way to turn it, he’s put himself in a big hole.

Instead of dwelling on his past mistakes, Tatis joins his teammates and falls in love with the game again. Tatis still has a long way to go to restore his reputation, but there is no doubt he has the skill and personality to move forward.

On Sunday night, the baseball world saw Fernando Tatis Jr. interact with fans, dance in the outfield and, oh yeah, hit two home runs in the Padres’ impressive win over the Dodgers in Game 2 of the NLDS. MLB is looking for a face – someone who embodies the game’s new personality. With bat flips and pitchers’ fist pumps in full effect, there is no room for the baseball purist of the past. The game always moves forward and the ideals of the past are mostly gone.

Players are allowed and encouraged to show emotions on the field. Old coaches used to talk about respecting the game. But we have already passed that point. It’s about enjoying a triumphant moment and enjoying the success of the game, which rarely happens. The failures still define the sport, but the successes are now celebrated, and without malice.

The celebrations are enjoyed by the fans. They are what make baseball.

On Friday, as the Padres began to pull away from the Dodgers, Tatis was filmed interacting with fans in the Padres dugout.

This is not your typical fan interaction. But did Tatis say or do anything malicious? Who knows what is against him?

Most fans find this funny. This is also a new era of the game. Interaction with fans will be a part of this in the future. A baseball game is like a show for the fans. They need to be entertained and get their money’s worth. The Padres, and Tatis in particular, will make sure of that. It’s fun to watch him. And really entertaining.

Here’s a video of Tais playing with fans in the outfield on Friday. He does this while being insulted with several objects. Instead of being angry, Tatis took the higher road. Sure, he could have ignored the fans. But why? It’s much more fun to interact and play out the rivalry. This is good for baseball.

Is there something wrong with that? He dances. He enjoys his moment. No bad intentions. Sure, that’s not what you’d teach a rookie coming up in the league. But Tatis is a special talent. He has witnessed the ups and downs of the game firsthand. At 25 years old, he has endured more than most veterinarians with ten years of experience. He has every right to celebrate and have fun during his days in the majors. And having fun is exactly what he’s going to do.

If you don’t like it. Maybe you are the problem.
