Barbra Streisand joins Jewish women in Kamala Harris call

The Jewish Women for Kamala Harris will welcome a prominent guest at their group conference this week: Barbra Streisand, who announced Monday (August 12) that she will participate in the recent virtual gathering of voters supporting the vice president’s 2024 presidential campaign.

The group is described as “thousands of motivated Jewish women ready to help elect Kamala” and will hold the e-meeting at 8 p.m. Thursday to “show their enthusiasm and support” for Harris and newly appointed Vice President Tim Walz. Streisand will be a guest speaker and explain “why she is so passionate about electing Kamala Harris as our next president,” a press release said.

All genders and Jewish allies are also welcome, according to the event’s website. Those interested can register online.

The event is just the latest virtual call from voting groups to really support Democrats. In July, Jeff Bridges, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Groban, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Mark Hamill, Josh Gad and others participated in a Zoom meeting themed “White Dudes for Harris” that raised more than $3.7 million for the former prosecutor’s campaign. P!nk and Connie Britton led a similar conference that drew more than 160,000 people.

Black women, Hispanic women, Black men, Asian Americans, Native Americans and members of the LGBTQ+ community have also organized virtual voter-led rallies in support of Harris.

Streisand was one of the first major musicians to voice her support for Harris when President Joe Biden dropped out of the race last month. Shortly afterward, she endorsed his running mate for the role. “Trump is a pathological liar who lies as easily as he breathes,” the eight-time Grammy winner tweeted at the time. “He wants to strip women of their rights and destroy our great democracy. Kamala Harris will continue Joe Biden’s work and be a great president.”
