Sixteen Oklahoma men who have dedicated 25 or more years of their lives to the art of barbershop were honored at a special awards ceremony during the week that Governor Stitt declared as “Vocal Sounds of Oklahoma Barbershopper Week” in Oklahoma.

In total, members of this special group have served the Oklahoma City Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society for 585 years, sharing the gift of the barbershop with fans across the city.

Honored were:

Doug Simpson, 26 years old; John Borgert, 27 years old; Mike Harris, 29 years old; Mark Winn, 31 years old; Bob Curtis, 32 years old; Del Boyles, 33 years old; Paul Cargill, 34 years old; Ricky Bugher, 39 years old; Bob Brown, 40 years old; Jim Moses, 40 years old; Gary Tibbits, 40 years old; Calvin Moser, 40 years old; Roger Morton, 41 years old; Dale Knowles, 41 years old; Don Rogers, 42 years old; and Amil Lyon, 50 years old

“Throughout the Oklahoma City Chapter’s 86-year history, these longtime BHS members have entertained audiences throughout the greater Oklahoma City area with four-part a cappella singing, whether as part of the Barbershop Choir, Barbershop Ensemble or Barbershop Quartet,” said Lester Claravall, president of Voxzl Sounds of Oklahoma. “These men have helped preserve this truly American art form that originated right here in Oklahoma and have kept this form of entertainment alive for audiences of all ages throughout the greater Oklahoma City area.”

The Oklahoma City Chapter is the third oldest chapter of BHS, founded on July 6, 1938. For more information about the award-winning 501c3 men’s barbershop choir, visit vocalsoundsok.org.
