Baker Mayfield appears to be putting ZYN on the Buccaneers sideline

When things are as bad as they were for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, you need some relief.

Early in the third quarter of a still closely contested matchup with the Ravens, Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield appeared to grab a ZYN nicotine pouch on the bench and put it in his mouth.

The Ravens started the second half with the ball and put together a drive that took a total of 2:40 of game time and ended in a field goal, so Mayfield was probably done with that bag during the game.

We all remember the days when Keith Hernandez smoked a cigarette in the dugout while manning first base on Mets teams of the late 1980s, but this is a different time.

Mayfield has emerged as a team leader in his second season in Tampa Bay after leading the team to the NFC South title a year ago.

The ZYN bag didn’t do him any favors in the second half, however, as the team seemed to fall apart when Mike Evans was sidelined with a hamstring injury.

With the Bucs leading 10-7 in the second quarter, Mayfield hit Evans with a sure-fire touchdown, but it was cut short when the receiver writhed in pain and was taken to the locker room before being immediately ejected.

An interception ended that drive and everything fell apart from there.

Mayfield finished the game with 370 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the 41-31 loss.

With the game in its final minutes, Chris Godwin was also sidelined with an ankle injury, which will end his season.

Tampa Bay now faces the daunting task of hosting the Falcons on a short week without their two best wide receivers.

Maybe their quarterback needs a few more ZYNs to keep his cool as he tries to develop chemistry with backups Trey Palmer, Jalen McMillan and former Giant Sterling Shepard, while also scouring the practice squad for depth options .
