At least one dead and several injured in “significant” shooting at Fall City home

At least one person was killed and several others were injured in a shooting early Monday morning in the Fall City area of King County, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting as a domestic violence incident, said Mike Mellis, KCSO public information officer.

“This is a significant event for the neighborhood,” Mellis said. “And I would describe it as a significant event for the region.”

Several callers reported a disturbance at a residential building that resulted in shots being fired. Deputies from various parts of the county responded to the 7700 block of Lake Alice Road Southeast, near the Lake Alice public boat launch.

Before officers arrived, they learned that a neighbor with a medical background had provided aid to one of the residents. This resident was transported to Harborview Medical Center and is in satisfactory condition.

When they arrived, emergency services immediately secured the scene of the accident and entered the house.

“What they found was a mix of injured and deceased individuals,” Mellis said, but did not specify how many people or their relationship to each other.

The KCSO Major Crimes Unit will be leading the investigation, but has requested assistance from the Washington State Patrol (WSP) to mobilize its Crime Scene Response Unit. WSP takes over the forensics on site.

“It was a traumatic scene,” Mellis added. “This discovery was the catalyst for the investigation.”

Mellis said the request for help from the WSP implied the situation was serious and needed expertise and time.

“It’s going to be a very significant and long investigation in this house,” Mellis said.

The KCSO said it has not made any arrests or taken anyone into custody.

“This is a significant event for the neighborhood, and I would describe it as a significant event for the region,” Mellis said.

Mellis said the first thing that needs to happen is for the KCSO to obtain a search warrant. He said he expects multiple search warrants will be issued beyond the original property.

“Search warrants in 2024 will be used frequently because technology could become relevant to a case,” Mellis said. “Phone records, cloud accounts, cloud security cameras.”

Several authorities and departments were on site early Monday morning.

The Issaquah Police Department, the King County Prosecutor’s Office and the King County Medical Examiner’s Office (KCMEO) are all on scene.

According to Mellis, the KCMEO will be the only agency to release the names and biographical information of the victims.

Mellis said the KCMEO brought its own investigators and doctors to view the crime scene and help determine the manner of death.

The neighborhood was quiet and there wasn’t much drama or police activity, Mellis said.

“It’s a pretty nice area, the crime rate is generally low,” Mellis said of Fall City, an unincorporated area in King County. “This is a place where people come to raise their families.”

“Everyone in this community will play their part in this tragedy,” Mellis added.

Mellis said the KCSO does not believe there is any danger to others because it was a domestic violence incident.

The KCSO said investigators are organizing and determining what other resources or agencies are needed to support the investigation. The KCSO also said witnesses were cooperating and assisting investigators with the investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
