Lotz plays Charlie Hightower in The curfew alongside Jack, played by Leo Howard (Kickin’ It, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra), with both screen siblings having extensive martial arts experience.

“I was excited. I love martial arts and always want to do more action,” Lotz told MMA Knockout about the call to star in The Lockdown. “I started out dancing and then doing stunts. So that’s part of my first love.”

“When they called me about it and I met Shannon (McIntosh), the producer, and Ryan (Jaeger), the director, they were just so great. They asked, ‘Do you want to work and shoot in Thailand?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ And a Muay Thai movie in Thailand? Can we train there? That’s always been one of my dreams, to go to Thailand and train Muay Thai and pretend I’m such a badass, but they’re pretty tough out there… I was like, ‘Watch my shins!'”

Having a wealth of experience in Filipino martial arts such as Kali and others, Lotz says she did “a little bit of Muay Thai” before eventually diving back into the discipline to prepare for the film, in which she would perform incredible stunts and fight scenes The curfewboth inside and outside the ring.

“It was different. I’ve never done wrestling before, so it’s a whole different kind of choreography,” Lotz said of her experience filming. “Which was interesting and nice, because even in Thailand, the stunt people there are hardcore. They’re like, ‘Just hit me, just do it…’ There, it’s less like you’re faking it, it’s more like… because when you’re in the ring, at least you have some gloves and stuff. You get hit and you hit. It looks better.”

“Great fights and you know that everything you see is practical. No wires, no tricks, nothing.”
We did everything. No stunt doubles. It’s a little more realistic than any of the other fights and stuff I’ve done.”

“I think this whole range of films that they do is so cool because you really don’t get this,” Lotz said of the martial arts appeal behind The Lockdown. “Growing up, I watched Bloodsport and all these martial arts films where these actors are real martial artists and you see incredible fights and it’s about the fights.”
