Ariana Grande is publicly apologizing to Cassandra Peterson after the actress known as Elvira recounted a bad experience meeting the singer years ago.

In a video circulating online, the Mistress of the Dark told a panel about her worst celebrity encounter with a singer whose name, she not-so-subtly said, “rhymes with Pariana Mande.”

She recalled that the “We Can’t Be Friends” singer requested 20 tickets to an Elvira show for her friends and family and had Peterson, 73, sign autographs and take photos with everyone backstage. When Peterson asked for a photo with Grande, 31, she said the singer replied, “No, I don’t really do that,” which drew boos from the crowd, according to the video. Peterson said Grande left before the show began, without her friends and family.

Grande commented on Peterson’s Monday Instagram post, where she shared the clip to make a statement.

“I am so disheartened to see this. In fact, I don’t even remember having the opportunity to meet you because I had an anxiety attack and, as I recall, left before the rest of my family (this was about 7 years ago and around 1920). “Back then, I really wasn’t very good at being in crowds or noisy places)…” she said. “But if I remember this moment incorrectly, I sincerely apologize for offending you.”

Grande may be referring to the period following her 2017 Manchester concert, when there was a deadly bombing that killed 22 people. The Grammy Award-winning singer has spoken openly about how traumatic the experience was for her.

“Thank you for being so kind to my mother. “She told me how nice you were (she may have different feelings now, but I’ll talk to her…sure, we all have our days!),” she continued. “You will always be our Halloween Queen!”

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Peterson and Grande for comment.

Peterson played the horror hostess character Elvira, Mistress of the Dark in the 1980s television show Elvira’s Macabre Movie and later in the 1988 film Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and the 2001 film Elvira’s Haunted Hills .
